It has been a few years since we have updated our Benchmark on “link quality” for S&P 500 websites so we decided to refresh it. Link Quality is not only checking for 404 errors but ALL HTTP error types e.g. 403, 302, 500, etc. This month we checked a subset of twenty S&P 500 websites for broken links (e.g. 404 errors and other HTTP errors like 302, 403, etc.). Some high-lites from the results:

– The average percentage of total broken links was 6.24%
– Agilent and BMC Software Corp. were the best websites
– American Express, Nvidia, CA, AMD, Nike and Qualcomm were amongst the worst sites
